IRCTC – Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corp Ltd

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd. (IRCTC) is a “Mini Ratna (Category-I)” Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Railways, Government of India. IRCTC was incorporated on 27 th September, 1999 as an extended arm of the Indian Railways to upgrade, professionalize and manage the catering and hospitality services at stations, on trains and other locations and to promote domestic and international tourism through development of budget hotels, special tour packages, information & commercial publicity and global reservation systems.

Cumulative production capacity of eleven Rail Neer Plants is 11,64,000 bottles per day which will likely be increased to 16,24,000 bottles per day in FY 2019-20 by setting up six more plants.

Products/Services

Catering & Hospitality
IRCTC manages the entire on-board catering services of Indian Railways in more than 460 passenger trains with pantry cars that includes Rajdhani trains, Shatabdi trains, Duronto Trains, Gatimaan Express and Mail/Express trains and also in newly introduced passenger trains such as Vande Bharat Express and Tejas Trains. In all the above mentioned trains, the on-board catering services is being provided from the pantry cars.
IRCTC also manages various static catering units of Railways such as Refreshment rooms, Jan Ahaars and Cell Kitchens. These units are established on Railway platforms and serve sumptuous dishes at reasonable prices. The list of food items being sold at these units along with the prices are advised by Ministry of Railways/IRCTC. These units usually sell items to the passengers on platform and also supply food to the passenger trains as per demand.

Internet Ticketing
IRCTC’s e-ticketing service has continued to go from strength to strength ever since it came into the market and now accounts for 70% of reserved tickets in 2018-19 on Indian Railways booked online. On an average, more than 7.78 lakh Tickets were sold daily through IRCTC’s website during 2018-19. The site offers round the clock ticket booking services except for 35 minutes from 2345 hrs to 0020 hrs.
During the year 2018-19, a total of Rs. 32,069 crores were collected as Ticket Fare from the users under E-ticketing revenue, which is 12.62% more than the last year’s collection of Rs 28475 crores.

Travel And Tourism
IRCTC, established in 1999, has been mandated by the Government of India to professionalize and upgrade rail based tourism in the country. Over the last twenty years, IRCTC has been a catalyst in the overall promotion and development of rail tourist across the country.
IRCTC is probably the only organization offering packages ranging from Rs. 900 per day to USD 900 per day.

Rail Neer Packaged Drinking Water
To enhance passenger amenities, the IRCTC launched Rail Neer, a branded packaged drinking water for the rail commuters. Rail Neer is processed, purified and bottled at state-of-art plants. Completely automatic plant and no manual handling of product water at any stage.
